What is this programme about?
This online programme provides a comprehensive training in hypnotherapy, covering its principles, techniques, and applications. It is designed to help students understand hypnosis, learn therapeutic interventions, and apply them ethically and effectively in professional or self-development settings and for those individuals who wish to integrate hypnotherapy into their clinical existing practice or start a new career as a clinical hypnotherapist.

Do I need any prior experience or qualifications?
The programme starts with foundational concepts and progresses to more advanced techniques, making it accessible for beginners while still valuable for those with some knowledge of hypnosis.
No prior experience or qualifications are required for Level 1.
Levels 2 and 3 can be accessed on completion of the previous levels, or if you have prior training, you can submit this to progess.

How is the programme delivered?
The programme is delivered online through a combination of:

Is this programme accredited?
All three course levels (Foundation, Hypnotherapy and Clinical Hypnosis) are offered in two pathways, so you can choose the one that best fits your goals.
Pathway 1: CPD Online-Only
100% self-paced learning — videos, audios & downloadable resources
Perfect for CPD, supplementary study, or a personal introduction to hypnosis
No tutor interaction required — start anytime, anywhere
Completion certificate (not valid for professional practice)
Best for: Students who are interested in leaning a new skill, those wanting CPD hours, personal development, or a taster before committing to practitioner training (Pathway 2)
Pathway 2: Accredited by GHSC (General Hypnotherapy Council)
Fully structured with tutor interaction, feedback, and formal assessment
Peer practice pods, recorded submissions, and final evaluations
Meets GHSC standards for Practitioner accreditation
Earns you tutor contact hours towards the 120-hour GHSC accreditation requirement
Accredited certificate valid for professional practice
Best for: Students aiming for full professional practitioner status with live tutor feedback and observed practice.
How long does it take to complete the Level 1 course?
The duration depends on your learning pace. On average, students complete the Foundation Course in 4–8 weeks if studying part-time. However, you will have lifetime access, allowing you to learn at your convenience.
I have already had some training in hypnosis. Can I go directly onto the level two course?
If you have prior experience and would like to go directly on to the level 2 Hypnotherapy course, you can email admin@ursulajames.com where an will make an assessment of your skills and training. There is currently a fee of £25 for this assessment.
Will I receive a certificate upon completion?
Yes, upon successful completion of each course of the programme, you will receive a certificate of completion.
On Pathway 1 you will receive a certificate of completion.
On Pathway 2, you will receive a certificate of competence to practice, accredited by the GHR at Practitioner level (upon completion of the accreditation requirements for all 3 levels).
Can I practise hypnotherapy after completing this course?
Yes.
On completion of all three levels of the programme you will be able to safely assess, develop a treatment strategy and hypnotise an individual to a positive therapeutic outcome.
What equipment or software do I need?
You will need:
- A computer, tablet, or smartphone
- A stable internet connection
- Headphones (recommended for hypnosis recordings)
- A quiet space for practice sessions
Can I access the training materials after completion?
Yes, you will typically have lifetime access to the course materials, allowing you to revisit lessons whenever needed.
However, after 2 years of inactivity your access will be restricted. You can always email us after this time to have it reinstated if you need to.
What if I have questions during the training?
On Pathway 1 you will have access to:
- Online discussion forums

- Direct messaging with tutors (when available)
On Pathway 2 you will have access to:
- Online discussion forums
- Student forum
- Direct messaging with tutors
- Live practice sessions
- Live demonstrations
- Live Masterclasses
At any time on the programme, students on Pathway 1 can access additiional support/materials which they find interesting from Pathway 2 on payment of a small fee.
Can I take the course at my own pace?
Pathway one you can take at your own pace, and study when it suits you.
Pathway two is more structured with a start date as it contains live sessions.
Will I learn self-hypnosis techniques?
Yes, this course typically includes training in self-hypnosis for personal development, relaxation, and behaviour change. You will also use directed self-hypnosis techniques to help you with your study.
How do I enrol?
You can enrol here by following the registration and payment process. Once enrolled, you will receive access to all materials and can begin learning immediately.
What qualifications will I receive upon completion?
Is there an App?
The course is hosted on the Teachable platform, and they have an app. It is not recommended for this course as some of the functionality is reduced.
Are there any places available on the course for free?
If you are employed by a Charity or you are a Nurse and you feel the training will help you (personally or professionally), then the Level 1 course is free of charge.
